The Bedales Parents’ Association was formed in 1949 and is a registered charity in it’s own right. It meets each term to discuss issues concerning Bedales, Dunhurst and Dunannie. Representatives from each school attend the meetings, usually Kate, Penny and Keith. Depending on the agenda other staff members attend too, as do either David Handley or Alan Redpath (current Co-chairs of the Governors). The parent committee is made up of 10 elected members from across all three schools, in theory a minimum of one parent with a child in Dunannie, two with a child in Dunhurst, and four with a child at Bedales.
The BPA aims to create genuine dialogue and operates with the understanding that parents are a vital and energising part of the school community. The BPA provides an important forum for creating mutual understanding through consultation, idea sharing and developing informed opinion. It is the BPA's and the school's responsibility to inform parents as fully as possible and to purposefully gather opinion from the community. The BPA strives to be completely inclusive and ensures that all voices in the community are heard.
The BPA is a flourishing Association which functions harmoniously, effectively and constructively with the schools. This is purely due to the continued and generous support of all the parents it serves, who are automatically members. All the parent groups at Bedales Schools, as well as the very many who volunteer in other ways, make positive and generous contributions of support, time and expertise to the overall wellbeing of the school community.
All these contributions, and the wonderful support that enables them, are greatly appreciated by the school, other parents and students!
